My Man Godfrey is a movie starring William Powell, Carole Lombard, and Alice Brady. A scatterbrained socialite hires a vagrant as a family butler – but there’s more to Godfrey than meets the eye.
Not as funny as I recalled. Interesting to see though how scripts and acting styles have changed over the years. The pace of the dialogue is frenetic while cuts are much slower – it feels a bit more like a play with set pieces.
What I did find striking is how little anything of substance has changed – the gap between rich and poor is as bad as it’s ever been, and the wealthy treat the poor with disdain.
