Sponsorship vs Mentorship

Bookmarked What does sponsorship look like? | Lara Hogan (larahogan.me)

Studies have shown that women (and nonbinary folks) are over-mentored, but under-sponsored.

My husband is great at sponsorship, I’m proud to see him be such an advocate for the women on his team. I don’t really do much of either – I’ve done informational interviews with people starting out which is more mentorship. When we’ve had interns I have done lots of training with them and given them opportunities to gain experience, which might be more like sponsorship 🤷‍♀️

Regardless, this is a good reminder to be cognizant of the ways we try to be allies, especially if I’m able to move to a higher level myself where I have more influence.
