Aqualung is the fourth studio album by the rock band Jethro Tull, released in 1971.
According to last.fm, I haven’t listened to this entire album since before I joined in 2007 (closest is in 2020 I listened to two-thirds of it). Not surprising then that I think of this album as two great songs and two good songs surrounded by a bunch of junk.
I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy most of the album today. (Still a few duds IMO.) I get periodic reminders like this that my tastes have changed (and grown) a lot since college, and it’s worth giving albums I disliked in college another shot.
I was surprised to see the song Aqualung wasn’t a single from this. That opening riff — hell yeah. Crank it.
I am not a flute fan usually but I love how enthusiastic Anderson is, when sometimes you hear his heavy breathing or almost overtone singing as he’s playing.
