Read The Tea Dragon Tapestry

Read The Tea Dragon Tapestry (Tea Dragon, #3) by Kay O’Neill

Over a year since being entrusted with Ginseng’s care, Greta still can’t chase away the cloud of mourning that hangs over the timid Tea Dragon. As she struggles to create something spectacular enough to impress a master blacksmith in search of an apprentice, she questions the true meaning of crafting, and the true meaning of caring for someone in grief. Meanwhile, Minette receives a surprise package from the monastery where she was once training to be a prophetess. Thrown into confusion about her path in life, the shy and reserved Minette finds that the more she opens her heart to others, the more clearly she can see what was always inside.

Another charming entry in the series. I didn’t follow the plot about Minette’s past — was she previously a fish? — but it didn’t really matter because the emotions were the important part. I liked how the adults were all supportive when the kids wanted help but also let them make their own decisions. I appreciate that everyone in this had something meaningful to contribute even though they had few lines.

Read The Tea Dragon Festival

Read The Tea Dragon Festival (Tea Dragon, #2)

Rinn has grown up with the Tea Dragons that inhabit their village, but stumbling across a real dragon turns out to be a different matter entirely! Aedhan is a young dragon who was appointed to protect the village but fell asleep in the forest eighty years ago. With the aid of Rinn’s adventuring uncle Erik and his partner Hesekiel, they investigate the mystery of his enchanted sleep, but Rinn’s real challenge is to help Aedhan come to terms with feeling that he cannot get back the time he has lost.

Cute art, charming story, cozy world. Love that the art includes sign language! Nice lessons.

Read Origin

Read Origin (Scales ‘N’ Spells, #1)

Cameron wants to make it clear that he did not go into the festival to find a dragon mate. Germany is supposed to be an escape. With a n…

As the first book in a series, this had a lot of work to do, and I think they weighed too strongly on the worldbuilding and setup. It was a slow 400 pages, with a limited action plot, a lot of training montage, and a heavy angst plotline. The king’s self-loathing and guilt are A Lot. There were weird specifics on how gay couples could have kids with magic. I’d be willing to try one more in the series and see if it picks up the pace.

Cool cover. Maybe feels a little paranormal?

Got for free through a Kindle promotion.

Read Havesskadi

Read Havesskadi

The red dragon is hunting her own. Up in the icy peaks of the northern mountains, Orsie Havesskadi spends his days hiding from her, but eventually he is found and his dragon magic stolen. Cursed to wander the lands as a mortal unless he recovers his magic before twenty-four rising crescents have passed, Orsie embarks on an arduous journey. Spurred by the whispers in his mind, his quest takes him to a castle hidden deep in a forest.

Arkeva Flitz, a skilled garrison archer, discovers an abandoned castle in the woods. Trapped there, he spends his days with his two companions, one cruel, the other soothing. One day, a young man arrives at his gates, and soon they are confined by heavy snowfalls and in danger from what slumbers in the shadows of the castle.

Sweet, slow burn ace dragon romance. Lots of yearning. Ending was less violent than I’d anticipated but I liked the more gentle approach.

Re-read Dragon Bound

Read Dragon Bound (Elder Races, #1) by Thea Harrison

Half-human and half-Wyr, Pia Giovanni spent her life keeping a low profile among the Wyrkind and avoiding the continuing conflict between them and their Dark Fae enemies. But after being blackmailed into stealing a coin from the hoard of a dragon, Pia finds herself targeted by one of the most powerful—and passionate—of the Elder Races.

As the most feared and respected of the Wyrkind, Dragos Cuelebre cannot believe someone had the audacity to steal from him, much less succeed. And when he catches the thief, Dragos spares her life, claiming her as his own to further explore the desire they’ve ignited in each other.

Pia knows she must repay Dragos for her trespass, but refuses to become his slave—although she cannot deny wanting him, body and soul.

I thought I’d just reread a couple scenes but got sucked into a whole reread (with skimming some world building). A lot happens in this but it doesn’t feel overwhelming, it’s in a logical sequence that all adds up and sets up future events. Being well plotted, it’s still surprising after many rereads she has so much head hopping.
