Captain Edward, an all-caps display serif

Liked Captain Edward (Simple Type Co.)

Inspired by the pirates of the Atlantic, Captain Edward is an all-caps display serif. Named after Captain Edward Teach—otherwise known as Blackbeard. The font takes cues from Cooper Black’s lighter-weight siblings as well as inspiration from the rugged New England coast…

I love the look of an all-caps heading, even though it’s probably not great for readability. (I love small caps even more.)

This one’s got a good vibe. And $20 for a desktop + web license is pretty affordable.

All-caps Depression-era inspired font: Recovery

This one screams book cover to me. I love how it clearly uses a historic aesthetic but also feels very usable today.

Fun wide slab serif: Platia

Bookmarked Platia | I Love Typography (I Love Typography)

Platia is a modern revival of the Hellenic Wide style that was popular in the 19th century. It retains the wide slab look while updating the details, especially curled legs, to enhance its elegance. It comes with Greek and Cyrillic in 9 weights. Platia means ‘wide’ in Greek (i.e. Hellenic).

Love that lowercase k and uppercase R 😍 That lowercase a and g are also pleasing. I rarely have reason to use slab serifs but would love to have an excuse to use this one!
