Singing to a Dead Crowd
Billy Ocean – Love Really Hurts Without You (1976)
He DGAF that the live audience isn’t into it, he’s giving it all to the camera anyway. What a smile! They really did dress crazy in the 70s.
Bob Marley in a button up
The original setup of Bob Maley & The Wailers performing at The Old Grey Whistle Test in 1973. This live in-studio performance was made for London’s Top Gear Radio Show before performing live for BBC Channel 2′s Old Grey Whistle Test. They perform “Stir It Up” and “Concrete Jungle” during this set. This is one of only 2 or 3 times where Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Bunny Wailer are captured on video performing together as The Wailers. The other recording with these three legends performing as The Wailers is way more rare but can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlApwBEo7jQ
Setlist:
1 – Stir it up
2 – Concrete JungleBand Lineup:
Bob Marley, vocals, rhythm guitar
Peter Tosh, vocals, lead guitar
Bunny Wailer, vocals, percussion
Aston Barrett, bass
Carlton Barrett, drums
Earl ‘Wya’ Lindo, keyboards
Somehow I’ve never seen video of Bob Marley performing, only photos that mostly are him smoking ganja. I was surprised to see him in a button up collared shirt, that didn’t fit the vision I had based on a reggae concert I went to as a kid at Golden Gate Park. His face is very expressive as he sings.
Listening to this for the first time in a while, I can hear the soul influences in the layered singing parts.
