A Natural History of Tahoma

RSVPed Attending Tahoma and Its People: A Natural History of Mount Rainier National Park

Presented by Jeff Antonelis-Lapp.

Learned that:

  • indigenous people have been going to Tahoma (Mt. Rainier) for 9000 years, mostly to hunt and gather high alpine plants like huckleberry
  • one of the key pieces of archaeological evidence for indigenous use is rock chippings from arrowheads and tools being sharpened
  • sediment deposition in rivers flowing from glacial melt has tripled compared to the past
