this call for change is too disruptive. you can protest as long as it doesn't disrupt anything and I don't have to think about it.

5000 comics for Questionable Content!

Liked Questionable Content by Jeph Jacques (questionablecontent.net)

Wow. 5000 comics. That is a much larger amount of comics than I ever expected to make.

I started reading this webcomic in 2004, when I used to read tons of webcomics, and nineteen years later this is the only one I’m still reading from those days. Cheers to Jeph Jacques for the milestone!

Read Miss Abbott and the Doctor

Doctor Andreas Marino loves his quiet life, filled with work and simple amusements, and when the strange Miss Abbott arrives in his town he decides he doesn’t like her at all. Unfortunatelly she’s funny and quirky, has an uncommon past and seems to enjoy getting him in trouble. Welcome to a sketchy Victorian rom-com!

I have been reading this webcomic over several months because Webtoons forces you to read it through their app, which only lets you read one page a day unless you buy tokens. I would rather just buy a copy of the book — though I calculated it at one point and the author (and Webtoons, I don’t know the split) get a lot more than they could charge for one book if someone were to FastPass the whole comic.

I was wholeheartedly enjoying it up till the series conclusion.

Read The Remarried Empress

Navier Ellie Trovi was an empress perfect in every way — intelligent, courageous, and socially adept. She was kind to her subjects and devoted to her husband. Navier was perfectly content to live the rest of her days as the wise empress of the Eastern Empire. That is, until her husband brought home a mistress and demanded a divorce. “I accept this divorce… And I request an approval of my remarriage.” In a shocking twist, Navier remarries another emperor and retains her title and childhood dream as empress. But just how did everything unfold?

This was a building season, looking forward to the payoff next season.

Heartening to see the supportive comments for the illustrator taking a break to recover! I feel like there’s been a shift in the years since Neil Gaiman wrote his “GRRM is not your bitch” post and people have gotten better about separating their enthusiasm for a work from entitlement — more understanding about creators protecting their health (or maybe just Webtoons readers are an especially kind corner of fandom). Makes sense that could be connected to the greater support we’re seeing for unions and worker’s rights? (Though it seems weird to see this wellspring of labor support at the same time the public as a whole has said FU to at-risk and immunocompromised people and kids on the pandemic. Guess we haven’t hit disability solidarity yet.)

Witness what the gods do…after dark. The friendships and the lies, the gossip and the wild parties, and of course, forbidden love. Because it turns out, the gods aren’t so different from us after all, especially when it comes to their problems. Stylish and immersive, this is one of mythology’s greatest stories — The Taking of Persephone — as it’s never been told before.

Beautiful art, interesting though frustrating story. The emperor is terrible and Rashta is obnoxious. Definitely going to be some reckonings coming when Navier learns Heinry’s plans. It bothers me how childish Heinry comes across when he is a Prince then King — he seems much younger than her, and for their partnership to work she needs to respect him as well.

In no surprise, I decided to binge the remainder of Lore Olympus up to present 😂 Stayed up till 1:30 last night reading it then spent most of the day today – there is a lot of content over four years! Definitely did not want to wait another year and a half for it all to be published in print. But now I have to wait till the hiatus is over in April ☹️

I would guess the story is at 75% / “all hope is lost” beat so hopefully the romance will finish up at the end of this season? I could also see it being at 50% but I hope not! I don’t know if I can wait another four years for the ending 😟

Read Lore Olympus (Lore Olympus, #1)

Scandalous gossip, wild parties, and forbidden love—witness what the gods do after dark in this stylish and contemporary reimagining of one of mythology’s most well-known stories from creator Rachel Smythe. Featuring a brand-new, exclusive short story, Smythe’s original Eisner-nominated web-comic Lore Olympus brings the Greek Pantheon into the modern age with this sharply perceptive and romantic graphic novel.

I tried reading this years ago as a webcomic but I don’t like Webtoons’ interface, so I bailed in the first chapter. Now, this volume left off midway through the story so I have to decide whether to wait till July when the next volume comes out in paper or brave Webtoons 😂

A bit funny to read this so soon after Hades and Electric Idol, two other contemporary retellings about Hades and Persephone and Eros and Psyche. Katee Roberts’s books feel similar in vibe although all three reinterpretations have distinct plots.

Beautiful cover. The art seemed a smidge uneven at the start but smoothed out after the first couple chapters. Love Persephone’s pink. Hades’ blue is a bit hard to read against the black background sometimes. I’m not 100% on the font.

Love this panel for the first time Hades and Persephone interact

Didn’t expect the character to get raped 😟 It was illustrated sensitively but usually I avoid reading stories with rape 😕 But it is based on Greek mythology.
